Another glitch in the Unreal Editor
When duplicating textures, never, NEVER duplicate it to another package.
For example, when you click on duplicate a texture, a dialog box appears asking for
Package:
Group:
Name:
The Package name has to be the original package name, and WHY??????... because the colors palette doesn't duplicate, but a link is created on its place, so basically the duplicated texture is dependant to the other package, so in order to work properly, both packages needs to be together in the same folder.
If not... the duplicated texture will be gray and as always... strange things will happen and you wont notice till is too late.

About Maya PLE - Milkshape - 3D Studio Max
Maya PLE is a 3D design software that comes with the Unreal Tournament 2003 package (3rd CD) the inits PLE stands for Personal Learning Edition, as you can tell is not a full verion of the program itself (the real one costs over $2.000). We had our problems about wich software should we use, and wasted a vey important time triying to find the right software for us, at the beginning we though Maya was going to be our best tool, cuz it came with the game, it's a version designed for UT2k3, etc.
My personal experience with Maya was awfull, I couldn't pass beyond loading and saving files, the GUI was kinda not friendly for me, so I stop the learning of this tool and keep working with the Editor.
Chris Woo, one of my teammates learned it and was very good at it building 3D objects, but then our probles started to apear, exporting from maya was very painfull, Maya by itself only works with it's native file extension, and you need a plugin for exporting to UT called ActorX. This plug-in (looks like) only works with the full verion of Maya, not with the PLE. None of our team members got that plug-in to work, not even following UDN instucctions just Christian Russo made it work, and so he was the only one that was abble to export these 3D objects created on Maya, and that was a very bad bottle neck in our team, our custom Static Meshes were created on Maya by one person and exported / imported to UEd by another person, that's quite a debendable team
3D Studio Max: I didn't had to much time to work with it, I had the trial version that only last 30 days. I found lots of training videos on3DBuzz.com very goods btw, download them for free with previous registration and as far as I know, more capable than Maya and much more friendly GUI too.
Importing Static Meshes to Unreal accepts .LWO (Lightwave) or .ASE (ASCII scene export) files, 3Ds Max supports several types of extension to export, incluiding .ASE so you wont need an external plug-in (at least for Static Meshes).
Milkshape is the best tool for modeling, is capable of creating basic 3D models, you can modify human models charactes and texturing, it's a very powerfull software, supports tons of different file types and it looks like is specially designed for video games cuz you can export to many different game file extensions (Unreal, Quake, Max Paine, Sims...) and it only costs like $20... quite a deal and very good tool.
This is the best tool mostly because you can modify complex models so easy, and has a nice GUI.

BSP Cuts
Again those BSP errors are appearing, they are following me!
I tell you are not carefully with your add/extract brushes, ANYTHING can happen and you will never know until it's too late.
The brush that creates the deck of the ship was disaligned in the horizontal level, so when the extract brush was cutting it it wasn't doing it well, and THAT little thing was the source of all my BSP errors on the deck.
